Workplace Noise Management

Safer worksites, clearer compliance, practical noise controls

Noise exposure assessments, engineering controls and operational noise management strategies for industrial worksites.

Workplace noise is rarely a single-source problem. It builds across equipment, processes, layouts and work patterns. When hearing protection becomes the default control, it can create ongoing management burden and WHS risk. Advitech works with mining operations, manufacturers, infrastructure projects, transport operators and councils across NSW and Australia to measure occupational noise exposure, prioritise controls, and implement practical noise management strategies that work in real operating conditions.

Problems we help you solve

When noise exposure risks are unclear

If you don’t know who is exposed, for how long, and at what levels, it’s hard to apply controls confidently. We help quantify exposure using assessment approaches that reflect real work patterns and operating scenarios.

When hearing protection is the default (and costs keep growing)

PPE is the last line of defence. Where it is relied on due to hearing loss risk, audiometric testing obligations may apply, including NSW WHS Clause 58 requirements for workplaces where PPE is required because of noise risk. We help identify practical options to reduce reliance on PPE where feasible.

When fixing the noise needs engineering, not guesswork

Some problems require engineered solutions such as mufflers, exhaust changes, enclosures, damping or plant modifications. We help diagnose the dominant contributors and recommend effective, site-ready controls.

When changes to plant or processes create new noise hot-spots

Upgrades and modifications can introduce tonal or impulsive noise, or shift frequency behaviour. We assess post-change impacts and develop practical controls to restore safe exposure levels.

Capabilities

Workplace noise assessments and exposure profiling

  • Occupational noise surveys aligned to WHS requirements and site conditions
  • Identification of high-risk tasks, locations and exposure drivers
  • Practical recommendations to reduce risk and improve compliance

Operational noise management

  • Controls that fit production realities, including planning, scheduling, plant orientation and process adjustments
  • Strategies informed by how noise behaves across a shift, not just a single snapshot

Engineered noise controls (where needed)

  • Recommendations prioritising engineering controls over PPE where feasible
  • Support for practical noise mitigation options and verification surveys

Scenario-based assessment and modelling support

  • Modelling to test what-if operating scenarios and worst-case exposure cases
  • Evidence-based guidance to support investment decisions and risk controls
