Advitech offers Sustainability and ESG expertise

Advitech welcomes Abby Yates who takes on the role of Manager – Sustainability.

In this newly created position, Abby will be helping businesses on their path to ‘net zero’ (emissions) and on developing Sustainability strategies that include Environment, Social & Governance (ESG) frameworks and practices.

Abby points out that Australia has now legislated emissions reduction targets of 43% and net zero emissions by 2050, which means that every company and organisation in the country has a lot of work to do to comply.

“We can’t just point the finger at heavy industry. We all have a role to play here.

“With around 40 percent of the world’s carbon emissions coming from buildings, with 27 percent related to the day-to-day running of a building such as the ones most of us work in or homes we live in, the potential for improvement is huge,” said Abby.

Originally hailing from Newcastle, Abby recently moved back to Australia after a 13 ½ year stint in London. Initially planned as a year travelling around South America, the trip extended to two-three years in the UK, then turned into a long-term move to England.

Having studied Applied Science (Geography) at UNSW, Abby commenced work in Australia as an environmental scientist. She then studied for a Masters degree in Environment and Business Management at the University of Newcastle before taking off overseas.

Abby worked for Mitsubishi Power Europe in engineering and scientific service and maintenance delivery projects in the energy sector across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).

Abby’s role at Mitsubishi evolved into quality, environment, and energy management, where she developed and implemented integrated management systems (IMS) across EMEA. Working closely with Health and Safety, she developed and managed processes, systems and standards that covered all aspects of the business from site-based works to supply chain management and corporate management.

One of the things that excites Abby about this new job is that it will continue to build upon the skills, experience, and knowledge of Advitech as it moves into supporting businesses navigating and managing the complexities of becoming more sustainable, the path to net zero, and ESG.

“The key to ESG success will involve businesses adopting an integrated and risk-focused perspective that aligns to company values and charts a course towards achieving business sustainability,” said Abby.

Abby believes that as Advitech becomes the go-to consultancy to help businesses achieve their sustainability and ESG strategies and pathway to net zero, all Emergent Group companies would do well to ‘walk the talk.’

“Of course, we’ll be examining our own sustainability and ESG practices and pledging net zero ourselves,” she said.

Advitech welcomes Abby to the Emergent Group family.
