Electrical Engineer - Functional Safety

Advitech is seeking an electrical engineer who is comfortable dealing with technical issues and commercial matters. This role will suit an adaptable engineer with a pragmatic approach, who can deal with complexity and  not get bogged down in unnecessary detail.  

Our ideal candidate would have experience in functional safety and risk management but if you have a strong electrical, instrumentation or control system background with some exposure to risk and functional safety and are interested in growing into the field, get in touch. 


  • Completing risk and functional safety analysis across an extensive range of clients
  • Contributing broad electrical engineering knowledge and experience to projects across a number of sectors
  • Helping grow Advitech’s technical contribution in renewable energy and climate technology
  • Coordinating project scopes of works, budgets and schedules
  • Actively maintaining good relationships with new and existing clients

About You

To be successful in this role, you will possess the following:

  • Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering
  • At least 5 years' experience as a practicing engineer
  • Experience across a diverse range of technical challenges and applications, with possible examples including:
    - Process control/automation
    - Renewable energy
    - Remote area power systems
    - Data collection and analysis
  • Self-motivated with a strong desire and ability to acquire technical and business knowledge/skills
  • Chartered membership of Engineers Australia (CPEng) or eligible to obtain
  • Demonstrated high level technical report writing skills

The following skills and experience would be advantageous: 

  • TÜV or equivalent qualification in Functional Safety
  • Auditing of electrical equipment and systems against relevant electrical or machinery safety standards
  • Experience in risk management and/or design
  • Experience in design, maintenance or operation of industrial control systems or industrial machinery and/or mining or processing plant and equipment

About the Position

Position Type: Permanent – flexible work practices apply for this role.
Reports To: Principal Engineer – Risk and Functional Safety
Location: Advitech office, located in the Emergent Group Headquarters, Newcastle.
