Rail Systems Assurance and Safety Engineering

Rail track and signalling infrastructure

Rail systems assurance for safe, compliant and operationally ready projects

Rail systems assurance is about demonstrating that complex rail projects are safe, compliant and ready for operation. Advitech combines operator-side and delivery-side experience across systems engineering and safety assurance, signalling, commissioning and multidisciplinary engineering to help clients develop clear, defensible assurance evidence from concept through to operation.

Rail projects rarely stall because the work was not done. They stall because requirements, hazards, design decisions and verification activities cannot be clearly traced and justified. Gaps that seem minor during design can become significant risks during assessment, causing costly delays and rework. We help you define complex changes, manage interfaces, build robust assurance evidence and move confidently through integration, acceptance and operation.

Our rail assurance capabilities

Functional Safety Assessment

Assessment of safety cases, hazard logs and supporting assurance documentation for alignment with the applicable standards and regulatory guidance.

Systems Engineering and Safety Assurance (SESA) Support

Traceability between system requirements, hazards, risks, controls and assurance evidence, maintained from concept through design, installation and commissioning.

Safety Workshop Facilitation

Facilitation of HAZOP, SHA, IHA, O&SHA, PHA and Safety in Design (SiD) workshops.

Safety Case Development Support

Development support for Generic Product Safety Cases (GPSCs), Generic Application Safety Cases (GASCs) and Specific Application Safety Cases (SASCs).

Independent Safety Case Review

Independent review of GPSCs, GASCs and SASCs, delivered as a separate engagement to development support.

Safety Integrity Level (SIL) Verification

SIL verification for signalling, train control and other safety-critical rail systems. See our Functional Safety page for SIL work outside rail.

Standards and frameworks we work to

Our engineers work to the standards, frameworks and guidance that govern rail assurance in Australia:

EN 50126-1 and EN 50126-2 (IEC 62278-1, -2)
EN 50716
EN 50129 (IEC 62425)
AS 61508 (IEC 61508)
ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 and ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207
MODSafe
Relevant ONRSR fact sheets and guidelines
Railway Assurance

Advitech’s Risk and Functional Safety team are certified in Functional Safety, International Engineering Safety Management (iESM) and Safety in Design. Delivering safe rail projects takes more than producing the right documents. The supporting evidence needs to be complete, traceable and technically defensible, and that requires engineers who understand how hazards, requirements, design decisions and verification connect across the project lifecycle.

Problems Advitech's system engineers help you solve

When your assurance evidence is challenged during assessment

Assessors look for the same weaknesses repeatedly, and finding them late is what turns a gap into a delay. We review your safety case, hazard log and assurance documentation for alignment with the applicable standards and regulatory guidance, and set out practical recommendations for closing what we find.

When traceability between hazards, requirements and evidence has broken down

Long projects drift. Requirements change, controls move, and the thread back to the original hazard gets lost. We re-establish alignment and traceability between system requirements, hazards, risks, controls and assurance evidence so the argument holds together from concept through to commissioning.

When SRACs are accumulating without a clear path to closure

Application conditions carried forward unresolved become someone else’s problem at handover. We provide identification, management and compliance guidance for Safety-Related Application Conditions so they close out before the asset goes into operation.
