Process Systems Modelling

Advitech can undertake process modelling of fluid piping, heat transmission and mass transfer systems. Our process engineers have a wide range of experience in not only modelling industrial process systems, but also the practical implementation of solutions to improve or optimise the process based on modelling results.

Some examples of recent process modelling projects conducted by Advitech are:

  • Tomago Aluminium potlines fume treatment system
  • Tomago Aluminium casthouse cooling system
  • Bradken Welshpool EAF fume capture
  • Port Waratah Coal Services wash down systems
  • Universal Anodisers bath cooling circuit

Examples

Changes to Tomago Aluminium's potline fume capture system based on the results of fluid system modelling conducted by Advitech resulted in a more balanced and effective ventilation system. System modelling was conducted using Piping Systems Fluid Flow software. The results of the modelling led to Tomago Aluminium installing new orifice plates for flow balancing. The graph shows the performance of the ventilation system before and after the new orifice plates were installed.

The modelling of Port Waratah Coal Services wash down systems helped to evaluate potential solutions to inadequate wash down water pressures at various site locations. During the course of model calibration against measured system pressure data, sections of network were identified as having possible restrictions. Subsequent inspection of pipe internals confirmed large restrictions due to pipe corrosion. The photo shows the internal condition of a ball valve in the wash down water network.
